Three identical dormitory buildings designed by Helmut Jahn have identical courtyards and linear-planted corridors separating the buildings. Hoerr Schaudt designed the courtyards with a formal bosque of white birch trees that contrast with the dark pavement of the plaza, creating an “oasis” on State Street.  The corridors separating the buildings are designed with respect to Alfred Caldwell’s native landscape of the historic IIT campus.
