The iconic image of the University of Chicago is its Collegiate Gothic Main Quadrangles and the Botanical Garden they enclose. This project transforms the main drive within the quadrangle, from the circle to University Avenue, into a pedestrian walkway that captures the historic feel of the quad while improving access for people with disabilities. Hoerr Schaudt designed a combination of porous concrete and limestone pavers to maintain a historically-appropriate aesthetic that is also environmentally sensitive.
