The Trump Organization located its new, 92-story Trump International Hotel & Tower on a spectacular site where the Chicago River bends at Wabash Avenue. In response, the landscape design for its three-tiered plaza creates a theater-like experience that treats the river as both stage and an extension of the city’s open space. The tower features the first native landscape for a major commercial building downtown , and the rich layers of wetland grasses, sumac bushes and tall plane trees immerse visitors in an abstraction of a Midwestern riverbank juxtaposed with monumental architecture. Plantings are organized in three layers including a Forest Layer, Central Garden, and Promenade Planters.
