At this new home in Chicago’s North Shore, landscape plays the role of art. The unusually long and narrow property is surrounded by five large houses and an irregular street pattern. This presented challenges to siting a new home while maintaining a sense of privacy. Sweeping gestures expressed in low, curving stone walls and a naturalized Midwestern plant palette define the design. Relationships between interior and exterior space were carefully delineated in collaboration with the home’s architect, Booth Hansen.
